DeGrazia Sets New School/Pool Record, Women’s Swimming Falls to Bridgewater State University, 150-109

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) clocked a new school record and pool record time of 19:13.52 in the 1500-meter freestyle, but the Blazers fell 150-109 to Bridgewater State University in Wednesday evening's swim meet at Partyka Natatorium.

With the loss, Elms falls to 2-6 on the season, while Bridgewater State improves to 6-5 on the season.

DeGrazia won three individual events including the 50-meter backstroke (33.29) and the 50-meter butterfly (31.39 which was also a school record) in addition to her new pool and school mark in the 1500-freestyle. DeGrazia eclipsed the previous school record of 20:50.03 which had stood since 2006, and bested the pool mark of 20:05.79 which had been set in 2010.

Freshman Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) added a victory in the 100-meter butterfly (1:18.05) and earned second place honors in the 100-meter individual medley with a time of 1:18.40.

Freshman Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) added a pair of third place marks in the 50-meter freestyle (32.26) and the 50-meter butterfly (36.51), while senior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Mass.) placed third in the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:25.46 and the 50-meter backstroke (38.28).

Freshman Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) clocked a third place time of 2:39.56 in the 200-meter freestyle.

Sophomore Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) placed third in the 50-meter breaststroke (42.99), followed by senior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) in fourth (43.72) and freshman Brianna Sylvester (Springfield, Mass.) in fifth (43.87).

The 200-meter freestyle relay team of DeGrazia, Panetta, Swart and Will powered to a winning time of 2:08.30, while the squad of junior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.), freshman Maddie Heelon (Agawam, Mass.), sophomore Miranda Pratt (Southington, Conn.) and senior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) secured third place with a time of 2:28.99.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, January 11 when it hosts Mount Saint Mary's College at 1:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
