Vurno Earns Back to Back NECC Rookie Honors

N. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.) was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Vurno has taken home top rookie honors for the first two weeks of the 2016 season.

During the Blazers' annual trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Vurno racked up seven points in two games with five goals and two assists. In a 15-8 battle with Saint Mary's (Ind.), Vurno logged her second straight hat trick, along with two assists for a five-point day. Against Cazenovia, Vurno netted a pair of goals. To open her rookie campaign, Vurno leads the Blazers in points (12) and goals (8), and is tied for the team high in assists with four.

The Blazers will return to the field when they travel to Wentworth for a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
