Blazers Return to Competition at Mount Holyoke

South Hadley, MA - The Blazers returned to competition at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday 4/10/2021. This was not only the Blazers first in person meet since last February, but also the first time the Blazers have swam in a short course yard pool. The change in course from our home short course meter pool was well received by the Blazers, and they all swam very well considering the change in pool length.

The meet kicked off with the Women's 200 Medley Relay. The team of Sarah Cotto, Hope Daley, Brittany North and Cricket Cavar touched the wall in 2:21.72. The next event was the 1650 Freestyle, which saw Cricket Cavar swimming back to back events. Cavar still was able to swim to a season best by about 30 seconds. Cricket's consistency was on display with 28 of 33 50 yard splits being within eight tenths of a second from each other.

The next two events with Blazers in the water were the 50 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke. The 50 Backstroke featured Nick Taylor and Brittany North. The duo touched the wall in 30.94 and 31.27 respectively. Taylors time was about one second off of his best, and well faster than his previous season best time. North not only swam to an in season best, but also a personal best time in 31.27. The 50 Breastroke saw Hope Daley touch the wall in 42.69, just one second off of her personal best time.

The meet moved onto the Sprint freestyle events with a diving break in between the two. The 50 and 100 Freestyle featured Sarah Cotto, and Nick Taylor joined in for the 100 Freestyle. Cotto swam to her second personal best time in the 50 Free in just over two weeks. Sarah touched the wall in 31.98 seconds dropping almost another full tenth of a second. The duo of Nick Taylor and Sarah Cotto finished the 100 Freestyle in 1:00.01 and 1:12.15 respectively. Both swims were well under their current season best times.

The next two events in the water were the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke. Cricket Cavar swam the 100 Backstroke for the Blazers,  and she touched the wall about four second faster than her current season best time, and was not far off a personal best. The 100 Breaststroke saw Hope Daley swim to a 1:37.71, which is less than one second off of her current season best time.

The next event was the 50 Butterfly, which again featured the duo of Nick Taylor and Brittany North. Both swam to current season best times at 27.87 and 29.03 respectively.

The final two individual events were the 200IM and 100IM respectively. Brittnay North was the lone Blazer in the water for the 200IM, and swam to a strong 2:27.79 in a new season best time. The 100IM had a full pool for the Blazers, featuring Cricket Cavar, Sarah Cotto and Hope Daley. The trio swam to a 1:15.50, 1:27.42 and 1:38.60 respectively.

The final event was the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Brittany North, Hope Daley, Sarah Cotto, and Cricket Cavar swam to an 2:10.75.

The Blazers return to competition on Saturday 4/17 at Gordon College.
