Men's Soccer Defeated By Fitchburg State

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback versus the visiting Fitchburg State Falcons Wednesday evening at Leary Field. With the loss the Blazers move to 1-9 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 2-5-1 overall.

The Falcons grabbed an early surge of momentum at the beginning of the contest posting their first shot of the evening at the 2:23 mark, which sailed high over the net. From there Elms would fire back after harnessing their first corner opportunity of the night at 5:38 where junior C.J. Dabkowski (Bristol, Conn) posted the first Blazer shot attempt soaring a ball high.
 

The Falcons would gain the 1-0 advantage at the 10:27 tally after junior Ibrahima Male (Pawtucket, R.I.) secured a Falcon breakaway down the midfield zone finding the back of the net. Elms posted six shot attempts throughout the first half, however the Falcons were able to enter the second half holding onto the early 1-0 advantage.

Male posted the first shot of the second to start the half on a Falcon high however freshmen Tyler Graves (Monson, Mass.) put a stop to the bullet to maintain the 1-0 scoreboard.  Despite Blazer attempts sophomore Marckdonard Bastien (Worcester, Mass.) secured the second Falcon goal of the contest at 61:41 after sliding a ball past Graves to the back right of the net.
Elms would continue to battle with junior Donald Whittle (Somers, Conn.) securing the first and only tally for the Blazer with 17:01remaining, off of a freshmen Jose Ulloa (Stamford, Conn.) ball down the middle off the pitch.
The Falcons would maintain control however posting their last tally of the evening only three minutes later with another Male goal off of a senior Connor Kneeland (N.Attlerboro, Mass.) assist down the left sideline to the back of the net to walk away with the victory.
 

The Falcons edged the Blazers in the shot column, 22-8, during the contest. Graves made a match-high nine saves for Elms, while sophomore Connor Smith (York, Maine) tallied five saves for the Falcons.

Elms will look to return to the win column when they play Wheelock October 1st for a 1PM start. Fitchburg State will be back in action when they face off against Worcester State Friday September 30th for a 7 p.m. start.
