Former Men's Basketball Player Aswad Thomas Featured In Hartford Courant

HARTFORD, Conn. - Former Elms College men's basketball player Aswad Thomas was recently featured in the Hartford Courant.

Thomas, who graduated from Elms College with a degree in business administration in 2008 and now plays basketball in the Hartford Pro-Am league, was the victim of two bullet wounds during an armed robbery attempt on Aug. 24, 2009. Since recovering from that incident, Thomas has become an anti-violence spokesperson.

During his two-year career with the Blazers, Thomas averaged 9.52 points per game, 4.12 steals per game and 6.36 assists per game. His 239 total steals in just two seasons is the program's all-time record, while his 369 assists is second best on Elms' all-time list.

During his senior season he finished as the nation's NCAA Division III leader in steals (4.6) and was ranked seventh nationally in assists (7.2). Thomas also became the fifth player in program-history to participate in the New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Senior All-Star Game.
