Laura Kulig

Laura Kulig - Elms College senior women's volleyball player Laura Kulig (Holyoke, Mass.) was chosen as this week's female student athlete spotlight.

Kulig is in her third season as a member of the women's volleyball program and is a communication and sciences disorders major at Elms College.

In 2009, Kulig downed 70 kills, dug 60 balls and recorded 19 total blocks for the Blazers as a middle hitter, helping the Blazers reach the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament. In 18 matches played so far during the 2010 campaign, Kulig has already smashed 30 kills, recorded 23 digs and notched 18 total blocks. She has also connected for 15 service aces including three in a 3-2 victory over Castleton State College on Sept. 25.

Briefly describe your favorite sports moment (playing or as a fan):

My favorite sports moment came during my sophomore year when we beat Lesley University in a regular season game. It was the best game I have ever played.

Who has been your biggest influence outside of sports and why:

My mom because she pushes me to leave as many doors open for myself as possible.

Why did you choose to attend Elms College:

I chose to attend Elms College for its academics.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why:

Puerto Rico.

Where is the one place you would like to travel to in the future and why:

I would like to travel to Italy and Hawaii.
