NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA, Feb. 20, 2009 - Elms College freshman Ashley Arbo (Rocky Hill, CT) placed ninth in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke as the Blazers' highest individual finisher in Friday's first day of the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Women's Swimming Championship hosted by the UMass-Dartmouth.

Arbo clocked a time of 2:25.20 to earn 12 of the Blazers' 16 first day point total.

Elms College currently stands 19th in the 21-team field. Keene State leads the way with 330 points. Bentley (303), Roger Williams (190), St. Michael's (188) and Western Connecticut (185) rounded out the top five teams.

Arbo, freshman Katie Roberts (Torrington, CT), senior Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) and sophomore Teresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, CT) teamed to place 18th in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.

The Blazers return to action in the second day of the NEISDA Championship on Saturday, February 21. Trials begin at 9:00 a.m.
