WOMEN'S SOCCER BLANKS NEWBURY 7-0
CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 2, 2008 - Sophomore midfielder Sarah Donais (Granby, MA) and junior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Elms College women's soccer team to a 7-0 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) victory over Newbury College Thursday night at Leary Field.
The Blazers improved to 3-6-0 on the season and 3-0-0 in the NECC, while the Nighthawks dropped to 0-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Donais opened the scoring just 3:59 into the contest and added her second goal of the game in the 62nd-minute to give Elms a 6-0 lead. Gagne scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 11th-minute to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Junior forward Serina Percoski (Westfield, MA) scored in the 19th-minute off a feed from sophomore midfielder Alison Couture (Chicopee, MA) and Gagne netted a goal just two-minutes later to give the Blazers a 4-0 advantage. Couture scored with 2:16 remaining in the first half to give Elms a 5-0 lead at intermission and senior midfielder Brittney Wright (Pittsfield, MA) capped the scoring in the 76th-minute for the 7-0 final.
Senior keeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) registered five saves to earn her first victory of the year in goal for Elms, while junior keeper Anastasia Tridenti (Gloucester, RI) had 14 stops for Newbury.
The Blazers return to action Saturday when they travel to Daniel Webster for a 1:00 p.m. NECC contest.
