Men’s And Women’s Swimming Compete Against Clark, Mount Holyoke

WORCESTER, Mass. – Elms College freshman Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle and also won the 50-yard freestyle for the women’s team, while freshman Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) won a pair of events on the men’s side to help pace the Blazers in dual meet action against Clark University and Mount Holyoke College.

On the women’s side, Dudunake earned a second place finish, clocking a school record-breaking time of 57.51 in the 100-yard freestyle. She also swam a 26.22 in the 50-yard freestyle to capture top honors in the event.

The team of sophomore Ashley Arbo (Kensington, Conn.), sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.), and freshmen Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) and Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) earned a second place time of 2:04.74 in the 200-yard medley relay, while the squad of Arbo, Bird, junior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Dudunake placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.48.

For the men, Gehring glided his way to a pair of victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:52.37) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.68). Sophomore Zach LeBarron (Bennington, V.T.) also finished first in the 50-yard freestyle, earning a 22.38 in the event.

The combination of senior Jason DiMauro (Chicopee, Mass.), sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Nick Whitman (Florence, Mass.) and LeBarron turned in a time of 1:49.56 in the 200-yard medley relay to earn second place. The team of Brune, DiMauro, Gehring and LeBarron placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time 1:36.54.

The Elms women’s team returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 19 when they host Western New England College (WNEC) in dual meet action. Meet time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.

The men’s squad returns to dual meet action on Wednesday, Jan. 20 when they face Trinity College. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Mount Holyoke College.
