MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DANIEL WEBSTER, 3-0
CHICOPEE, MA, OCT. 4, 2008 - Daniel Webster sophomore forward Chris Leyland (New Hope, PA) netted his fourth goal of the season to help lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Elms College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game at Leary Field on Saturday afternoon.
The victory was the fifth of the season for Daniel Webster (5-4, 2-0 NECC), which surpassed its combined win total from the previous three seasons. The Eagles last five-win season came in 2003.
The Blazers, meanwhile, lost their sixth straight and fell to 3-8, 0-3 NECC.
Daniel Webster raced out to a quick 1-0 lead in just the 2nd minute of play when junior midfielder Michael Lohr (Chepachet, RI) blasted a shot into the upper corner from 30 yards out that eluded freshman goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, MA).
The Eagles struck again in the 24th minute when Leyland gathered a rebound and deposited a shot past Sullivan.
Parker Condit concluded the scoring in the 72nd minute when he collected a loose ball on a scramble in front and hammered home a shot past Sullivan for his first goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Joe Keene (Bristol, NH) turned aside three shots to earn his third shutout of the season for the Eagles, who were outshot by the host Blazers 12-10.
Sullivan also finished with three saves in the loss.
Elms College returns to NECC play next Saturday, October 11th at Newbury. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
