Student Athletes Honored at Athletics Awards Banquet
At the end of each year the Elms College athletics department recognizes its student athletes and their achievements from that season.

Department Award Winner
The Monsignor Timothy J. Leary Award is presented
for demonstrating Monsignor Leary’s spirit, dedication,
leadership and love of athletics.
-The 2012 winners are Mike Desmond (Nashua,
N.H.), a cross country runner and swimmer and
Katie Condon (Sandy Hook, Conn.), a member of the
women’s basketball team.
The Dr. Joachim Froehlich Award is a well
rounded student athlete that achieves academic success as well as
athletic, has a full understanding of the college’s mission
and is an inspiration to their teammates and coaches.
-The 2012 winners are Garrett Brune (Lakeville,
Mass.) of the swim team and Courtney Hampton (Westfield,
Mass.) of the softball program.
The Senior Athlete of the Year Award recognizes
the department’s most outstanding athlete in terms of
athletic ability and accomplishment. All senior student
athletes who are in good playing and academic standing are eligible
for this award.
-The 2012 male Senior Athlete of the Year is swimmer Nick
Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.) and Erika Murphy
(Torrington, Conn.) of the women’s basketball
team.
The Elms College athletics trainers also give out the Sports Medicine Awards to a male and a female student athlete. Their award is famously known as the Band-Aid Award and this year’s recipients are baseball player Donny Morse (Alfred, Maine) and Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) of the field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams.
The Bolt Awards were created by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2005-06 as a way for Elms College student athletes to recognize the accomplishment of their peers at the College's annual year-end athletics banquet.
