Elms College Athletics Reaches Fundraising Goal for Breast Cancer Research

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College athletics department raised a total of $1,041 during its fall, winter and spring season “pink-out” events. All money raised will be sent directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1.9 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, the organization is working to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, and generous contributions from its partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Elms has instituted annual “pink-out” events at various sporting events throughout the year and fans who attended each of those sporting events were asked to wear pink and donate a minimum of $1 to help promote breast cancer awareness.

In the fall of 2010, during the Blazers’ women’s volleyball match against Bay Path College on Oct. 20, the department raised $186 towards its year-wide goal of $1,000.

On January, 22, the athletics department raised $688 during its men’s and women’ basketball games and men’s and women’s double-dual meet. The Daniel Webster College basketball teams as well as the Gordon College and Norwich University swim teams contributed donations and sported pink attire during the contests to help support the cause.

The department reached its goal during its final “pink-out” event of the 2010-11 year raising a total of $167 during its baseball and softball doubleheaders against Daniel Webster and Becker College, as well as during the women’s lacrosse game against Westfield State University on April 30.

The athletics department would like to thank everyone who participated!
