The Elms College Men's Teams Win 2010-11 NECC Champions Cup
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Elms College men's athletic programs won the 2010-11 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Cup for their top performances in regular season and tournament play as announced by the league office on Monday.
Elms' men's programs received the top ranking in the NECC with 33 (.673) out of a possible 49 points. The Blazers won the 2010 NECC men's golf title as well as the 2010-11 NECC men’s basketball title. They were third in the 2010 NECC men’s cross country championship and advanced to the finals of the 2011 NECC men’s volleyball championship.
Last year’s cup winner, the Daniel Webster College men's programs finished in a close second place with 32 points (.582) out of 55. The Eagles won the 2010 NECC men’s soccer title and made it to the quarterfinals in men’s basketball and were fifth in golf, while making it to the semifinals in baseball. Becker College (3rd), Mitchell College (4th), Southern Vermont College (5th), Lesley University (6th), Newbury College (7th) and Wheelock College (8th) rounded out the 2010-2011 NECC Men's Champions Cup standings.
For the third consecutive year, the Lesley University women's programs notched the highest ranking in the NECC with 67 (.931) out of a possible 72 points. The Lynx won three titles this past year, including the 2010 Women's cross country championship, the 2010 women's volleyball championship and the 2011 softball championship. Lesley also advanced to the 2010-11 NECC women’s basketball finals, the 2010 NECC women’s soccer finals and finished third in the 2010 NECC women’s tennis final standings.
The Daniel Webster women's programs finished in second place with 51.5 (.687) out of a possible 75 points. The Eagles won the 2010 NECC field hockey title and the 2010-11 NECC women's basketball championship title, while they were runners-up in women’s volleyball. The Eagles also made the semifinals in women’s soccer and softball, falling to Lesley in PK action in soccer. Mitchell College (3rd), Elms College and Newbury College (tied for 4th), Becker College (6th), Wheelock College (7th), Bay Path College (8th) and Southern Vermont College (9th) rounded out the 2010-2011 NECC Women's Champions Cup standings.
