About The Team

Since taking over the program in 2008, fifth-year head coach Sheila Gisbrecht has led the Blazers to three New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament appearances including the league’s inaugural tournament championship match in 2008.

Coach Gisbrecht, who was named NECC Coach of the Year in 2008, has had 15 players garner all conference recognition including five first team and six second team selections, two honorable mention selections and one player of the year and rookie of the year.

In 2012, sophomore middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) was named Second Team All-NECC. Pickett led Elms with 82 kills during conference play averaging 2.93 kills per set. Both marks ranked Pickett second in the league in the respective categories during the course of the NECC slate. Pickett also posted 2.39 digs per set and finished the season with 67 digs in conference action, and registered 10 service aces against NECC competition.

In four years of action at Elms, senior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) totaled 518 kills and 747 digs and is currently ranked fourth on the program's all-time kills list, and second on the program's all-time digs list. During the 2012 season, Martin registered a season-high 11 kills in a 3-0 win over Pine Manor College and again in a 3-1 loss to Bay Path College, and posted a season-best 21 digs against Bay Path.

Senior setter Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) played just one season of volleyball, made a tremendous impact. In 22 matches, Murphy notched 283 assists, including a season-best 44 helpers in a 3-2 loss to Albertus Magnus College in the 2012 season opener. Murphy's 283 assists ranks her fifth on Elms' all-time assists list.

In addition to competing in the NECC, the Blazers are also members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
