WOMEN'S SWIMMING OUTLASTED BY MOUNT HOLYOKE, 149-113

CHICOPEE, MA, Dec. 6, 2006 - Elms College freshmen Marie Waterhouse (East Longmeadow, MA) and Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) each won two events, but Mount Holyoke College posted victories in eight events to pull away to a 149-113 win over the Blazers in Wednesday night's women's swimming meet at Partyka Natatorium.

With the win, Mount Holyoke improved to 2-1, while Elms College fell to 2-5.

Waterhouse posted school-record times en route to victory in both the 50-meter backstroke (33.09) and 100-meter backstroke (1:12.88).

Walker, meanwhile, set a pair of new school marks in her victories in both the 100-meter freestyle (1:05.51) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.30). Walker also set a school-record in a second place finish in the 50-meter butterfly (32.85).

Waterhouse and Walker also teamed with sophomore Kate Orefice (Southington, CT) and junior Kaity Jo Bryll (East Hartland, CT) to set a new school-record in the 200-meter medley relay (2:13.27).

Mount Holyoke junior Grace Bauer (Oakdale, CT) registered victories in the 100-meter individual medley (1:15.60), 100-meter butterfly (1:12.52) and 200-meter individual medley (2:40.86).

The visiting Lyons also first place finishes from senior Laura Ferrante (Milford, CT) in the 50-meter butterfly (32.56), Amanda McGorsky (Southampton, PA) in the 400-meter freestyle (5:22.39), Rebecca Campbell (Ewingville, NJ) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:26.61) and Julie Yeung in the 50-meter freestyle (31.18).

Mount Holyoke pulled away from a 97-91 lead over the final five events of the meet en route to the win.

Elms College returns to action on Saturday, January 13 when it hosts Mount St. Mary College. Meet time is 1:00 p.m.
