Women’s Soccer Tops Wheelock College, 11-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward Melissa Welch (Westfield, Mass.) netted her first collegiate-career hat trick and senior forward Victoria Cebula (Granby, Mass.), and senior defenders Ally Witaszek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Ashley Venancio (Ludlow, Mass.) each netted a goal to pace the Blazers to an 11-0 victory over Wheelock College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's Soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 9-8-1 overall, 8-1 in NECC action, while Wheelock moves to 1-14 overall, 1-8 in league action.

Welch scored a first half hat trick while freshman midfielder Kylen O'Hearn (Somers, Conn.) and sophomore forward Emily Brown (Agawam, Mass.) netted a goal each in the first half.

Witaszek, Cebula and Venancio each scored in the second frame, along with junior forward Gina DiGiovanni (Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore forward Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.).

Venancio and Cebula each added assists in the contest, while senior midfielder Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior midfielder Carmen Marino (Granby, Mass.) and sophomore forward Hannah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) also added helpers in the winning effort.

Wheelock received a 23-save effort from net-minder Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) while the Wildcats fired three shots on goal, including one apiece from Alison DeGloria (Chelmsforst, Mass.), Madeline Domingo (Newington, Conn.) and Katlyn Rose D'Errico (Nashua, N.H.)
