WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNS THOMAS IN DOUBLE OVERTIME, 2-1

CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 13, 2007 - Elms College sophomore forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the year and sophomore midfielder Maggie Rivers (Dalton, MA) netted the game-winner in the 103rd minute to help lift the Blazers to a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime win over Thomas College in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms College won for the third time in its last four games to improve to 5-8-1 overall, 4-3-1 NAC. Thomas fell to 7-5-2, 1-5-1 NAC.

Gagne opened the scoring just 1:03 into the match when she collected a ball inside the penalty area and fired a shot inside the far post past Thomas sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Thornton (West Gardiner, ME).

Junior midfielder Brittany Morin (Winslow, ME) answered for the Terriers in the 49th minute when she dribbled past a defender and fired a shot over Elms College junior goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) to knot the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied at 1-all when Rivers dribbled past a defender and beat Thornton 2:31 into the second overtime for her first goal of the year to provide the winning margin.

Donnelly finished with two stops for the Blazers, while Thornton turned aside 14 shots in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to play next Saturday, October 20 at Husson College. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
