Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team picked up another win on Monday night, defeating the visiting Rivier University Raiders 15-11 in non – conference action.
The Blazers got off to a quick start putting up 3 goals in the first five minutes to jump out to 3-0 lead and would take a 9-4 lead into halftime.
The second saw the visiting Raiders come out with renewed energy and pull to within one of the Blazers. With the score 10-9 Elms would step up and score three consecutive goals and get a more comfortable lead. The Blazers would pick up their defensive play the rest of the way only allowing two goals in the last 10 minutes and take the win 15-11.
Haley Richard (Monson, MA) led the way for Elms with six goals, three ground balls, seven draw controls and seven cause turnovers. Alli Zadworny (Northamton, MA) and Arianna Callahan (West Springfield, MA) each had two goals in the win and Vanessa Vurno (Salem, CT) pitched in with four goal and three assists. Vurno's first goal of the game was a special one as it was her 300th career point.
The Blazers are back in action on Wednesday when the travel to Rhode Island College for a non – conference game. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
