WOMEN'S LACROSSE DOWNED BY RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE, 14-3

CHICOPEE, MA, March 19, 2009 - Rhode Island College sophomore attack Katelyn Chouinard (Warwick, RI) netted a game-high three goals and four other players scored two goals apiece to carry Rhode Island College to a 14-3 win over Elms College in Thursday afternoon's non-conference women's lacrosse game at Leary Field.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Conte (North Providence, RI), freshman midfielder Nichole Drolet (Somersworth, NH), freshman attack Adrienne Gerard (Cranston, RI) and sophomore attack Nichole Grimshaw (Coventry, RI) all netted two goals apiece for the Anchorwomen (1-1).

Chouinard netted two of her goals in the game's opening 7:28, while Conte, Gerard and Grimshaw all tallied twice in the opening 30 minutes to stake Rhode Island College to a commanding 12-2 advantage at intermission.

Sophomore Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman Chiara Razzino (Providence, RI) combined for five saves for the Anchorwomen, who outshot the host Blazers 28-11.

Freshman attack Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, MA) scored twice, sophomore midfielder Jenn Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) added her team-leading fourth goal of the year and freshman goalkeeper Holly Braziel (Shelburne Falls, MA) stopped 10 shots for the Blazers in the loss.

Elms College opens New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) play when it hosts Castleton on Saturday, March 21. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Leary Field. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Castleton.

Rhode Island College also returns to action on Saturday, March 21 as it hosts Bridgewater State College at 12:00 p.m.
