WOMEN'S LACROSSE TOPS THOMAS, 19-5

CHICOPEE, MA, March 29, 2008 - Elms College senior midfielder Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) and senior center Lauren O'Donnell (Hampden, MA) poured in seven goals apiece to help the Blazers cruise to a convincing 19-5 win over Thomas College in Saturday afternoon's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms College improved to 2-2 overall, 1-1 NEWLA. Thomas fell to 0-2, 0-2 NEWLA.

Childs scored three of her goals in the opening 10:50 as the Blazers raced out to a quick 6-0 lead.

Freshman defenders Nicole Foss (Addison, ME) and Kayla Lessard (Somersworth, NH) connected for their first goals of the season just 32 seconds apart midway through the first half to cut the Terriers' deficit to 6-2.

Childs and senior attack Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) combined to score five of the game's next six goals over the final 8:44 of the first half to stake the Blazers to a commanding 11-3 lead at intermission.

From there, O'Donnell erupted for six of her goals in the second half to help the Blazers pull away.

Senior defender Raemarie Josefiak (Springfield, MA) added two goals and two assists and junior goalkeeper Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) stopped six shots for the Blazers in the winning effort.

 

Junior goalkeeper Ashley French (Rindge, NH) turned aside 12 shots for the Terriers in the loss.

 

Elms College returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, April 1 at Smith College. Game time is 5:00 p.m.
