WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO WORCESTER STATE, 17-2

Box score

WORCESTER, MA, April 3, 2008 - Elms College senior attack Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) and senior midfielder Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) each netted a goal, but Worcester State used a big first half run to pull away to a 17-2 win over the Blazers in Thursday's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Coughlin Field.

With the win, Worcester State improved to 4-1 overall, 2-1 NEWLA. Elms College fell to 2-4, 1-3 NEWLA.

The Lancers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the game's opening 84 seconds before Childs cut the deficit in half 51 seconds later with her team-leading 15th goal of the year.

From there, though, Worcester State erupted for eight unanswered goals to build a 10-1 halftime lead.

Junior goalkeeper Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) was kept busy, as she turned away 17 shots for the Blazers, who were outshot 48-10 in the loss.

Elms College returns to NEWLA play when it hosts Castleton on Sunday, April 6. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
