WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNS WHEELOCK, 63-30
CHICOPEE, MA, Dec. 8, 2007 - Elms
College sophomore guard Ally Wanat (West Springfield,
MA) and sophomore forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford,
MA) netted 12 points apiece and the Blazers rolled to
their third straight win with a 63-30 victory over Wheelock College
in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball
opener for both teams at the Maguire Center.
With the win, Elms College improved to 4-4 overall, 1-0 NAC. Wheelock fell to 1-3, 0-1 NAC.
The Blazers scored 21 of the game's first 25 points in the opening 11:50 and never looked back.
Elms College converted 18 first half turnovers by Wheelock into 22 points to build a commanding 40-17 lead at intermission.
Junior guard Jenn Payton (Stratford, CT) netted
all 11 of her points in the opening 20 minutes, while Wanat added
10 of her points in the first stanza.
For the game, Elms College held huge advantages in points off turnovers (33-9), points in the paint (30-12) and bench scoring (25-5).
Wheelock received a team-high 10 points from sophomore guard Erin Reardon (Old Town, ME).
Elms College returns to second semester, non-conference play
when it plays at Western Connecticut State University on Sunday,
January 6. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
