NORTHAMPTON, MA, Nov. 20, 2007 - Elms College junior guard Jenn Payton (Stratford, CT) poured in a game-high 18 points, but Smith College limited the Blazers to 21.7-percent shooting from the field and rallied for a 46-43 win in Tuesday night's non-conference women's basketball game at Northampton.

With the loss, Elms College fell to 1-2 overall, while the host Pioneers improved to 1-2.

Despite shooting 4 for 20 in the opening half, the Blazers knocked down 15 of 19 first half free throws to take a 25-19 lead at intermission.

From there, however, the Blazers were held to just six more field goals over the final 20 minutes as the Pioneers avenged last year's 42-40 loss at Elms College.

Payton finished 6 of 12 from the field for her game-high total, while junior forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) added nine points in 32 minutes.

Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Mount Holyoke on Tuesday, November 27. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
