SOFTBALL DOWNED BY SALEM STATE, 12-2

FORT MYERS, FL. March 9, 2008 - Elms College freshman outfielder Arianna Graveline (Springfield, MA) and senior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) combined to go 4 for 4 but could not stop the Blazers from being defeated 12-2 against Salem State in Sunday afternoon's non-conference softball game held at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

With the loss Elms College drops to a mark of 2-2 on the season.

Giampetruzzi finished 2 for 2 with an RBI while Graveline was 2 for 2 and drew a walk.  In all Elms College recorded 13 hits but could not capitalize with runners in scoring position.

Senior shortstop Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) went 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) recorded a strikeout and allowed 12 runs on 11 hits.

Elms College returns to non-conference action when the Blazers face Albion on Tuesday, March 11 at 9:00 a.m..  The game is part of the Gene Cusic Classic and will be held in Fort Myers, Florida.
