SOFTBALL RUNS PAST LASELL, 3-0
IN FIRST ROUND OF DOUBLE-ELIMINATION NAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

NEWTON, MA, May 4, 2007 - Elms College junior second baseman Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) had a pair of RBIs and junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) pitched a complete-game shutout, to help lift the Blazers to a 3-0 victory over host top-seeded Lasell College in Friday afternoon's double-elimination round of the 2007 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball tournament at Taylor Field.

With the win, Elms College improves to 16-11 overall, and now advances to the Saturday's winner's bracket game to face Maine-Farmington, which defeated Husson 6-3 in Friday's other first round game.

Lasell fell into the consolation bracket, but escaped elimination with a 6-5 eight-inning win over Husson.

Elms College took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when junior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) laced a RBI single to center field scoring freshman catcher Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA).

The Blazers scored again in the fifth inning and increased the lead to 2-0 when senior shortstop Jen LeDoux (Easthampton, MA) scored on a sacrifice bunt by Palomba.

Palomba added her second RBI in the top of the seventh inning as she reached on a fielder's choice, to plate junior pinch-runner Cassandra LiPetri (Nashua, NH) to bring the score to 3-0.

Tremblay retired the last six Lasell batters in order to help seal the victory for the Blazers.
