Box scores

CHICOPEE, MA, April 6, 2007 - Elms College junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) struck out seven batters and tallied 3 RBI in game one, and freshman designated player Allyson Graffum (Ipswich, MA) went 3 for 3 in the second game to help carry the Blazers to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader sweep over Castleton State College on Friday afternoon at Dooley Field.

The Blazers posted a 3-0 win in game one, and completed the sweep with a 10-1 mercy-rule win in the nightcap.

With the sweep, Elms College wins three straight games to improve to 4-6 overall, 2-0 NAC, while Castleton remains winless and falls to 0-4 overall, 0-2 NAC.

In game one, Elms College scored all three of their runs in the first inning when Tremblay connected for a two-out, bases-loaded double to center field. From there, Tremblay pitched a three-hit shutout (her first of the season). Sophomore left fielder Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) went 3 for 3 with three singles in the win.

In game two, the Blazers jumped to a quick 5-1 lead in the first inning, scored a run in the second inning, and two more in both the third and fifth innings to post a five-inning, mercy-rule victory.

Junior second baseman Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) added a pair of singles in the win.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) struck out eight batters and surrendered just four hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Castleton received a solid effort from freshman second baseman Alicia Zraunig (Greenfield, MA) who went for 2 for 3 in game one and 1 for 2 in game two for the Spartans. Junior pitcher Angie Carpenter (Sharon, VT) gave up three runs on 7 hits and struck out three in game one.

The Blazers return to NAC action on Saturday, April 7 when they host Johnson State in a doubleheader. Game one is set for 11:00 a.m. at Dooley Field.
