Elms Leads NECC With 38 Academic All-Conference Selections

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College placed 38 student-athletes on the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference honor roll, announced by the conference office Wednesday. A total of 201 student-athletes have been named to the NECC Academic All-Conference team for the 2016-2017 Winter and the 2017 Spring Semester. This marks the largest number of recipients for this award for the winter and spring sports. Of the 201 student athletes, thirteen were dual sport athletes. To be eligible for the NECC Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standings. Student-athletes who competed in Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's Volleyball, Baseball, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Softball, and Men's Tennis were eligible for fall NECC academic honors.

Women's Lacrosse led the way for Elms College with 11 representatives. Seniors Kathleen Tuechler (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Sabrina Pereira (South Windsor, Conn.), and Kaeleigh Dowe (Somers, Conn.); juniors Madison Crawford (Bennington, Vt.), Madison Jung (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Lindsay McNiff (Kingston, Mass.), Alissa Porfilio (Agawam, Mass.), and Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.), and sophomores Alyssa Barnes (Pittsfield, Mass.), Mackenzie Hill (Brownfield, Maine), and Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.).

Baseball placed nine student-athletes on the list with seniors Dan Brunetti (Enfield, Conn.), Anthony Garde (Westfield, Mass.), Stephen Harrison (Southbury, Conn.), Jeff Hockenberry (Westfield, Mass.), and Brian Hungerford (New Preston, Conn.); junior Ben Ross (Thompson, Conn.); and sophomores Josh Berthiaume (Pittsfield, Mass.), Cody Fisher (South Windsor, Conn.), and Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, Conn.).

Men's Volleyball registered six student-athletes with senior Austin DeCosmo (Southwick, Mass.); juniors Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Michael DiPasquale (Meriden, Conn.), Blake Fry (Natick, Mass.), and Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); and sophomore John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.). Softball added five student-athletes to the Academic All-Conference list with seniors Tessa Cote (Granby, Mass.), and Meg Shewchuk (Springfield, Mass.); junior Elizabeth Olszewski (Canterbury, Conn.); and sophomores Kayla Doherty (Plaistow, N.H.) and Raeanna Tumel (Stafford, Conn.).

Women's Basketball logged four representatives with senior Heather Bailey (East Hartford, Conn.) and Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.); junior Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.); and sophomore Nakia Mabin (Bridgeport, Conn.). Men's Basketball notched three student-athletes on the list with seniors Conny Ihearahu (Largo, Md.) and Dimitri Tessier (Brockton, Mass.); and junior Chris Connolly (Westbrook, Maine).
