ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second time in three weeks, Elms College freshman middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week in men's volleyball as announced by the league on Monday.
Castro earned his second career weekly accolade after helping the Blazers to a 2-2 record at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Invitational and a 3-2 record overall during the week. Castro led the team in digs with 13 in a conference win over Daniel Webster College on Feb. 9 and smashed nine kills and collected 15 digs in a tough 3-2 loss to Johnson & Wales University in the final match of the MIT Invitational to highlight his weekly performance. Castro totaled 27 kills, 44 digs, seven service aces and 10 total blocks (2 solo, 8 assisted) in the five-match span.
