Men’s Volleyball Sweeps NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College sophomore outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) and sophomore setter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men’s volleyball player of the week awards for the week of Feb. 1-7 as announced by the league office on Monday.

Acosta, who was named player of the week, smashed 19 kills, added six digs and amassed four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted). He registered a .500 attack percentage with only two errors, helping the Blazers to a 3-0 sweep of Southern Vermont College on Feb. 6. This is Acosta’s first weekly honor of the season.

Martin, who earned his second rookie of the week accolade in as many weeks, distributed 38 assists, added four digs and downed two kills to help pace Elms in the win over the Mountaineers. This is Martin’s second NECC award of the season.
