SWIM TEAMS COMPETE AT NEISDA CHAMPIONSHIP

DURHAM, NH, Feb. 16, 2007 - Elms College freshman Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) finished third overall in the 50-yard breaststroke and freshman Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) placed fifth overall in the 500-yard freestyle as the men and women's swimming teams competed in Friday's New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship at Swasey Pool.
For the women, Walker clocked a school record time of 32.53 in the 50-yard breaststroke and placed third overall, while sophomore Kate Orefice (Southington, CT) earned an eighth place finish in the same event with a time of 33.87.
Walker and Orefice later joined junior Kaity Jo Bryll
(East Hartland, CT) and freshman Marie Waterhouse
(East Longmeadow, MA) to a 13th overall finish
in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a school record time of
1:49.32, and later in the 400-yard medley relay with a sixth
overall finish, and a school record time of 4:24.69. 
Waterhouse set a school record in the first leg of the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 1:04.41.
Waterhouse also swam her way to a school record and eighth place overall finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.47.
For the men, DiMauro recorded a time of 5:07.22 to place fifth overall in the 500-yard freestyle.
DiMauro teamed with freshman Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA), freshman Mark Pirruccio (Brewster, MA) and senior Ted Manley (Monson, MA) in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a school record time of 1:36.57 and in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a school record time of 4:06.76.
Starke set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.13, but did not make the finals.
Pirruccio earned a ninth place overall finish in the 50-yard freestyle registering a time of 23.0.
Both swim teams return to championship action Saturday, February
17, at Swasey Pool. Trials start at 9:00 a.m. and finals begin at
5:00 p.m.
