About The Team
The men’s soccer team - established in 1998 – added to
its rich tradition with a historical 2012 season that was
highlighted by a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
Championship title and capped by the program’s first-ever
appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Led by fourth-year head coach Chris Streeter, the Blazers won three of their final five games to end the regular season and earn the third seed in the NECC Championship tournament. Elms posted wins of 4-1 over Southern Vermont College, 3-2 in overtime against Mitchell College, and a spectacular 2-0 triumph over top-seed Lesley University to capture the team’s first-ever NECC championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason tournament.
Elms closed out its 2012 campaign winning five of its last six games en route to the program’s third-highest win total (11), and most wins since the Blazers notched 12 victories as members of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in 2004.
Under Coach Streeter, Elms has had a total of 11 players garner all-conference accolades including a conference rookie of the year, three first team all-conference selections, six second team all-conference members and two honorable mentions.
In 2012, freshman midfielder Gerard Lawler (Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia) was named NECC Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-NECC selection, while junior forward Adam O’Grady (Somers, Conn.) was named First Team All-NECC as the league’s leading goal scorer.
Lawler earned his conference honors after netting four goals and
assisting on two others during conference competition to lead all
first-year players; while Adam O'Grady led the league in scoring
with seven goals and two assists during conference play and totaled
15 goals during the campaign.
Freshman defender Connor O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) was named Second Team All-NECC after scoring a goal and helping Elms' stout defense give up the second fewest goals (5) during the team's conference slate.
Fellow defenders sophomore Anthony
Nitri (Feeding Hills,
Mass.) and freshman Joe
Pellegrini (Somers,
Conn.) were named Honorable Mention All-NECC. In
addition to stellar play in the defensive third of the field,
Pellegrini added a goal and an assist, while Nitri notched two
assists during NECC action this season.
In addition to competing in the New England Collegiate Conference
(NECC), the Blazers belong to the Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA).
