Since its inception in 1998, the men's soccer program has made
success a tradition. During its history, the team has totaled 90
victories, posted three 12-plus win seasons, and has earned 10
postseason tournament berths.
This high level of team success has also translated into
individual successes, as several players have been nationally
ranked in Division III by the NCAA in both offensive and defensive
statistical categories.
In 2009, first-year head coach Chris Streeter
took over the program and brought with him a “team-first,
individual acclaim-second” philosophy that was clearly
evident on the field.
The Blazers won two of their final three contests to close out the
season and earn a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC)
tournament berth. The three-game stretch included a thrilling 3-2
overtime victory over conference rival Southern Vermont that saw
junior defender Chris Silva (Chicopee, Mass.) head
in the game-winning goal.
Junior midfielder Courtney Johnson (Belchertown,
Mass.) was named First Team All-NECC after netting a pair
of goals and adding an assist for five points on the season, while
freshman forward Tavish Leland (Bridgton, Maine)
and Silva each earned second team honors. Leland led the Blazers in
scoring with five goals and finished with 11 points on the season.
Silva provided tremendous presence in the backfield and added four
goals and an assist during the 2009 season.
Senior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, Mass.)
became the program’s all-time saves leader during the 2009
season, concluding his career with 291 saves.
The squad posted victories against Emmanuel (2-1 OT), Wheelock
(7-2), Mount Ida (2-1), Southern Vermont (3-2 OT) and Becker
(2-1).
In addition to competing in the NECC, the Blazers belong to the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA).
