Jaden, Macdonald, Romei Earn All-NECC Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Babba Jaden (Clarkston, Ga.) earned first-team All-New England Collegiate Conference honors to highlight three Elms College men’s soccer players named to the All-NECC teams, the league announced on Tuesday. Colby Macdonald (Bristol, Conn.) and Anthony Romei (Enfield, Conn.) were voted to the All-NECC second-team by the league’s head coaches.

Jaden, a junior forward and the 2017 NECC Player of the Year, netted nine goals and two assists, including eight goals and an assist in NECC play. He led the NECC in goals per game in both NECC games at 1.14 and overall at 0.53 goals per game. His 20 points for the season were tied for third in the NECC. All three of Jaden’s multi-goal performances came against NECC opponents. He netted a brace against New England College on Sept. 22 and another against Lesley on Oct. 6 before picking up a hat-trick against Eastern Nazarene on Oct. 20. Jaden earned NECC Player of the Week honors on Oct. 9.

Macdonald earned second-team all-NECC honors after collecting nine points on four goals and an assist in 2018. The senior midfielder celebrated his Senior Day with two goals, including the game-winner, against Eastern Nazarene. He also scored at Curry on Sept. 26 and at Westfield State on Oct. 10 and delivered an assist at Lesley on Oct. 6.

Romei, a senior defender, led the NECC in in assists in conference games with six helpers against league competition. He also added two goals in conference play for 10 points within the NECC. His seven assists for the season ranked second in the NECC and his 11 points ranked eighth. With the ability to deliver a devastating service, Romei racked up several of his assists on perfectly placed free kicks and corner kicks throughout the season.

Tyler Hesselton was selected and Elms' representative on the Del Malloy All-Sportsmanship Team.

The fourth-seeded Blazers open postseason play tonight against fifth-seeded New England College with the winner advancing to Friday’s semifinals at top-seeded Newbury.
