CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's soccer team will travel to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday, Nov. 10 to take on No. 25 University of Scranton in the NCAA Division III Championship first round at Hartwell-Rogers Field on the campus of Babson College. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
Elms (11-7-2) is making its first-ever NCAA postseason appearance after clinching the program's first-ever New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship with a 2-0 win over Lesley University in the conference tournament title game on Nov. 4. The Blazers are led by First Team All-NECC forward, and conference leading scorer junior Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.). O'Grady netted a league-best 15 goals including two during the team's championship run.
Scranton earned an at-large bid to the tournament after going 14-2-2 overall and losing in overtime in the Landmark Conference championship, 1-0, to Susquehanna University on Sunday. The Royals earned the 13th NCAA appearance in the program's 44-year history, and their first since 1993. Scranton is ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic region. Scranton is led by senior Bill McGuiness (Forty Fort, Pa.), who has nine goals and six assists this season. Sophomore Kevin Kozic (Raritan, N.J.) also has nine goals, tied with McGuiness for the team lead.
Colorado College (13-4-3) will square off against host Babson (13-3-3) in Saturday's other contest in the pod on Nov. 10. The two winners will then meet at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Hartwell-Rogers Field. Colorado ranks second in the West region, while Babson is fourth in the New England region.
