Men’s Soccer Downed By NEC, 4-0 In Season-Opener

Box Score

CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, MA) stopped 15 shots, but New England College’s midfielder Kagan Sinclair (Marblehead, MA) connected for a goal and an assist to help pace the Pilgrims to a 4-0 win in Saturday afternoon’s non-conference men’s soccer match at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 0-1 on the season, while NEC improves to 1-1 overall.

The Pilgrims got off to an early start as midfielder Peter Koskores (North Andover, MA) placed a ball in the top right-hand corner of the net at the 13:51 mark to give NEC a 1-0 edge.

NEC upped its lead to 2-0 when forward Paul McLean (East Hartford, CT) tapped a through ball to Sinclair who sliced the ball into the right side of the net.

Elms found its offensive rhythm in the second half as junior forward Josh Chagnon (Loudon, NH) drilled a pair of shots but could not find pay dirt.

Seventy-one minutes into the game, midfielder Taylor Federici (South Dartmouth, MA) scored the third NEC goal before Sinclair found Keith Vosmus (Brunswick, ME) who snuck a shot past a diving Sullivan to give the Pilgrims a 4-0 lead.

Blazers junior midfielder Sam Senecal (Chicopee, MA) and junior defender Justin Pearson (Torrington, CT) each tallied shots in the losing effort.

Sinclair finished with six of NEC’s 27 shots.

Elms returns to the pitch Wednesday, Sept. 9 when it travels to Framingham State for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
