AMHERST, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team improved by four strokes on the second day of action at the 2016 Blazer Fall Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Club Sunday afternoon. The Blazers fired a team score of 642 (323-319) to finish 24 shots of the lead.
Junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) led the Blazers with a team-low 156 (80-76) to finish tied at sixth overall on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) claimed 11th-place with a 158 (76-82), while sophomore Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) was one shot back for a share of 12th with a 159 (79-80). Junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) checked in at 29th with a 169 (88-81), and freshman William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.) was 40th with a 186 (94-92). Freshman Devin Senerchia (Ludlow, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers in competition with a 213 (110-103) to take 48th overall.
Endicott College won the event with a score of 618 (312-306). Rhode Island College was second with a 628, followed by Nichols (637), Westfield State (639), Elms, Purchase (658), Emmanuel (Mass.) (687), Suffolk (692), Becker (752), and Daniel Webster (DQ).
Endicott junior Athan Goulos (Peabody, Mass.) claimed the individual medalist spot with a score of 148 (76-72), finishing three strokes ahead of Westfield State junior Mike Sarkis (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
The Blazers will be back on the course for the Roger Williams Invitational at Montaup Country Club Wednesday afternoon in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
