Men's Golf Lands Second in NECC Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf squad was slotted second in the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Golf Coaches' Preseason Poll, released by the conference office Wednesday.

Elms captured 29 points in the poll, finishing seven points shy of preseason favorite Babson College. The Blazers finished second in the 2015 NECC Championship, and will bring back 2015 All-NECC Second Team selection junior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and 2014 All-NECC First Team selection junior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.).

Babson looks to capture thier third straight NECC Title. The Beavers earn all six of the first place votes for 36 points as voted on by the league head coaches.

Babson returns their top five players including the reigning conference Player/ Rookie of the Year, Riley Whitham. Whitham is joined by fellow All-NECC first team members Benjamin Crawford and Ian Notkin, while Kyle Alexander earned All-NECC Second team honors. 

Finishing third at last season's championship as well as in the 2016 polls was Becker College with 22 points. Mike Morgan starts his third season with three starters returning for the 2016 season. 

Springfield College returns a strong core of returners including Greg Allen and Travis Price who both earned NECC honors a season ago.

Closing out the polls was Mitchell College with 12 points and Daniel Webster College with 10 points.

Most NECC teams will begin their seasons with tournaments on September 1st. NECC Championship will be held on October 1st and 2nd at Wachusett Country Club in Worcester, Mass.
