BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team placed fourth overall at the 2015 Newbury College Kickoff Classic, hosted by Newbury College at the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course Thursday afternoon.
The Blazers carded a team score of 335 in 18 holes of play, finishing 34 strokes back of tournament winner Castleton University. Sophomore Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) fired a team-low 82 to claim a share of 16th overall. Senior Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.) finished one stroke back of Fleury for 18th with an 83. Senior Dan Olive (Jefferson Township, N.J.) and sophomore Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) both shot an 85 for a share of 20th on the leaderboard. Freshman Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers golfers, grabbing a share of 23rd place, shooting an 85 in his first collegiate tournament action.
Castleton won the event with a score of 301, led by individual medalist Zach Temple, who fired a round-low, two-under 69. Babson College took second with a 303, followed by Endicott College at third with a 304, Elms in fourth, and host Newbury checked in at fifth with round of 350.
The Blazers will return to action in an 18-hole event hosted by Mitchell College Wednesday, September 9th in Groton, Connecticut.
