GRANBY, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) shot a low round of 73 and earned individual medalist honors and three Blazers shot below 80 to help pace Elms to a team score of 311 and secure a win in Friday's Blazer Invitational at Westover Golf Course in Granby, Mass.
Fall shot a 36 on the back nine and was just one stroke behind that on the front nine en route to his top score of 73. Fall was one of nine players to card a pair of birdies on the day. Franklin Pierce University's Adam Spencer finished two strokes behind Fall with a round of 75, while Elms' junior Philip Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) registered a round of 76 to finish third overall.
Rurak carded a pair of 38s over the 18 holes to total a 76, while sophomore Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) finished with a round of 79. Freshman Nicholas Smith (Enfield, Conn.) rounded out the Blazers' scoring contingent with a round of 83, while junior David Pianki (West Suffield, Conn.) added a round of 94.
Endicott College finished seven strokes off the lead (318) to finish second, led by Jackson Wyman's score of 78. Nick Erlichman, Brett Malboeuf and Ian Teal each turned in scores of 80 and Jack Carroll finished at 81 to help pace the Gulls to second place.
Westfield State University's A team combined to shoot 323 and finish in third place, followed by Franklin Pierce in fourth (325), Nichols College in fifth (328), Westfield State B in sixth (337), Castleton State College in seventh (341), Anna Maria College in eighth (352) and Mitchell College finished ninth with a score of 480.
Elms' sophomore Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) shot an 80 for the day, while junior Daniel Costello (Brookfield, Mass.) tabbed a round of 86.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) received round of 81 by Shane Ortega and Sean Cota but did not register a team score.
Friday's event concludes the 2011-12 season for the men's golf team.
