The Blazers were ranked as high as 12th in the nation, and finished the season ranked 22nd in the final D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. In addition, the men’s basketball team was honored as the NCAA’s 2008-09 national statistical champion in steals per game and scoring margin.

The following season, the Blazers ranked in the top 10 nationally in steals per game, and turnover margin. The Blazers have also qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship in six of the last seven seasons, and won the program’s first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) title in 2010.

Prior to joining Elms College, Coach Silva served as an assistant coach for six years at Eastern Connecticut State University, where he helped guide the team to the 2000 Little East Conference title and an appearance in the NCAA Division III regional tournament. He had also served for one year as an assistant coach at Hesser College in New Hampshire.

During his collegiate career, Coach Silva played basketball at Hesser for two years, where he earned NJCAA All-Region XXI honors. After transferring to Eastern Connecticut State University, he was recognized as a Met-Life Scholar Athlete and chosen for the New England Basketball Coaches’ Association Senior All-Star game. Coach Silva also earned All-Little East Conference (LEC) honors that year.

In 2011, Coach Silva was selected to serve on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee for a term of four years. The committee is comprised of 13 members including six members representing all three divisions.

Coach Silva is a faculty member in the Elms College Sociology Department. He received his bachelor’s degree in applied sociology from Eastern Connecticut State University and his master’s degree in social work from the University of Connecticut.
