Ed Silva, who is in his eighth year as head coach of the men's
basketball program, earned his 100th collegiate-career
coaching victory last season.
He has led the Blazers to unprecedented success during the past four years. The program, which was 2-21 in the year prior to his arrival, has won four consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament championships and qualified for the NCAA Division III championship during each of the past four years.
Last season, Coach Silva guided the Blazers to a program-record 23-7 mark, and in 2004-05, he was named NAC Coach of the Year after leading the team to its first-ever NAC Championship, NCAA Division III Championship berth, and 20-win season.
In his first seven seasons overall, Coach Silva has helped Elms
College win 118 of its 195 games (.608 winning percentage).
Prior to joining Elms College, Coach Silva served as an assistant coach for six years at Eastern Connecticut State University, where he helped guide the team to the 2000 Little East Conference title and the NCAA Division III regional tournament. He had also served for one year as an assistant coach at Hesser College in New Hampshire.
Coach Silva played basketball at Hesser for two years, where he earned NJCAA All-Region XXI honors. After transferring to Eastern Connecticut State University, he was recognized as a Met-Life Scholar Athlete and chosen for the New England Basketball Coaches' Association senior all-star game during his senior year. Coach Silva also earned All-Little East Conference (LEC) honors that year.
Coach Silva is a faculty member in the Elms College Sociology
Department. He received his bachelor's degree in applied sociology
from Eastern Connecticut State University and his master's degree
in social work from the University of Connecticut.
