 MEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNS NEWBURY, 87-76

CHICOPEE, MA., Feb. 19, 2008 - Elms College sophomore Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) poured in a team-high 23 points and five players scored in double figures to help the Blazers earn a victory over Newbury 87-76 in Tuesday night's non-conference men's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

With their ninth consecutive win the Blazers improve to 18-6 overall while Newbury sees its seven-game winning streak snapped and drops to 16-8 on the season.

Junior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) recorded a double-double as he scored ten points, handed out 11 assists, and also tallied seven steals.

Newbury senior guard Arch Mitchell (Framingham, MA) led all scorers with 29 points by shooting a sizzling 12-of-13 from the field including 5-of-5 from three point range.

Senior forward Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) and junior forward Malakie Berry (Enfield, CT) both scored 14 points and combined for 13 rebounds.

Freshman forward Ronald Thomas (Chicago, IL) scored ten points, leading the way for the Elms College bench which outscored the opponent's reserves 22-8.

Elms College returns to North Atlantic Conference play Saturday, February 23 at Wheelock.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
