MEN'S BASKETBALL STYMIES MAINE-FARMINGTON, 60-57
FARMINGTON, ME, Jan. 25, 2008 - Elms College junior point
guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) poured in a
game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers and the Blazers
forced the University of Maine-Farmington into 25 turnovers en
route to a 60-57 win over the host Beavers in Friday night's North
Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball game at Dearborn
Gymnasium.
The Blazers snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 10-6 overall, 3-2 NAC. Maine-Farmington fell to 8-9 overall, 4-3 NAC.
The Blazers, who held a 28-25 edge at intermission, grabbed the lead for good with 9:27 left in regulation on a three-point play by Galdon to make it 47-46. The lead never grew more than six points and the Beavers clawed back into the game with a Matt St. John (Wayne, ME) drive-and-layup to cut the Blazers' lead to 58-57 with just over a minute to go.
The Beavers had a chance to take the lead with 27 seconds left in
the game, but Elms College junior guard Aswad Thomas
(Hartford, CT) picked off an entry pass and junior forward
Joe Esile (Milford, CT) knocked down a pair of
free throw attempts to seal the victory.
Esile finished with 12 points and Thomas added five steals for
Elms College, which returns to conference play on Saturday, January
26 at Thomas College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
