MEN'S BASKETBALL SOARS OVER BECKER, 80-57

Box score

LEICESTER, MA, Feb. 9, 2008 - Elms College sophomore point guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) netted a game-high 13 points and the Blazers roared out to a 29-point halftime lead in an 80-57 rout over Becker College in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball game at Leicester.

Elms College extended its win streak to five straight and improved to 14-6 overall, 7-2 NAC. The victory also avenged the Blazers' last loss -  77-74 setback to Becker on January 19. The Hawks fell to 10-12, 4-6 NAC.

Senior forward Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) and junior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) added 11 points apiece for the Blazers, who shot 50.0-percent from both the field (15 for 30) and 3-point range (5 for 10) in the opening half to built a 46-17 lead at intermission.

Elms College limited Becker to just five first half field goals and forced the Hawks into 24 turnovers for the game.

The Blazers return to conference play at Lesley University on Tuesday, February 12. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
