MEN'S BASKETBALL RACES PAST CASTLETON STATE, 92-79

CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 2, 2007 - Elms College senior guard Justin Davis (Huntington, NY) netted a team-high and season best 15 points to help the Blazers overcome a nine-point halftime deficit, and pull away to a 92-79 victory over Castleton State in Friday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball game at the Maguire Center.  

With the win, Elms College wins its fourth straight game and eight of their last nine to improve to 12-6 overall, 7-1 NAC. Castleton loses their second straight game and fall to 8-10 overall, 4-6 NAC.

Castleton stormed out to a 12-point lead over the first 11:36 of the first half on four three-pointers by sophomore guard Josh Howe (Randolph, VT) as the Spartans built a 50-41 lead at intermission.

Elms College used a 21-12 run over the first 7:05 of the second half to battle back and tie the game at 62.

Elms College senior guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) hit Davis on three 3-pointers half-way through the second half to extend the Blazers lead to 9. Ancrum registered seven points and dished out 10 assists on the night.

Castleton  senior forward Jeremy Jorgensen (Fairlee, VT) finished with a game-high 16 points and recorded the game's only double-double, adding 13 rebounds in the losing effort. Howe and junior guard Rich Reilly (Manassas, VA) finished with 15 points apiece.

Senior guard David Williams (Hartford, CT) and junior forward Nathan Hawes (New Hope, MN) each scored 11 points, and junior guard Randy Hite (Hartford CT) contributed 12 points off the bench for the Blazers in the winning effort.

Castleton received solid play from junior guards Alden Gregory (Corinth, ME) and Joe Farley (Fairlee, VT) who netted 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Blazers return to action Saturday, February 3, when they host Johnson State in a North Atlantic Conference game. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
