About The Team
The men's golf team competed in 13 invitationals during the 2008-09
season, including the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Division III Championship and inaugural New England Collegiate
Conference (NECC) Championship. Sophomore Andrew Sullivan
(West Springfield, MA) earned Second Team All-NECC honors
after carding a two-round total of 166 (78-88). Junior Ben
Kwiatkowski (Chicopee, MA) joined Sullivan as a Second
Team All-NECC selection after finishing with his two-round total of
165 (82-83). Kwiatkowski also earned a thrilling one-hole playoff
in the fall season-opening Blazer Invitational at Chicopee Country
Club to help the Blazers earn team runner-up honors at the event.
Prior to last season, the men's golf program had won four tournaments in the past five seasons, including capturing the 2008 Blazers Spring Invitational in a seven-team field that featured four-time North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion Husson College (Bangor, Maine), Western New England College (Springfield), and Division II Franklin Pierce College (Rindge, New Hampshire).
First-year head coach Craig Cowles
expects to develop the Blazers into one of the top
regional Division III programs by extensive recruiting throughout
New England, emphasizing individual skill development and course
management, and competing at invitationals that attract the premier
New England collegiate golf programs.
The Blazers play both a fall and spring season. They practice and
play all home matches at nearby Chicopee Country Club, a
6,742-yard, par-71 course, which is recognized as one of the
premier municipal courses in Massachusetts.
As members of the NCAA, ECAC, and NECC, the golf team competes against many of the region's best Division III programs each season. The Blazers host two or three home invitationals each year. In the fall of 2008, the Blazers hosted the inaugural two-day NECC Championship, and in 2007, they hosted the ECAC Division III New England Championship for the first time.
