CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team was dealt an 8-0 defeat from visiting Lasell College Thursday night in non-conference action at Leary Field. The Blazers drop to 0-7 on the season, while the Lasers improve to 2-4 overall.

Lasell opened the scoring in the 4th minute as senior Ashlee Pechulis (Clinton, Conn.) dribbled through the Blazers defense and fired a shot past Elms keeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.), to stake the Lasers to a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Lasell freshman Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) put back as saved shot from sophomore Shannon Motz (Readington, N.J.) to push the Lasers lead to 2-0. Flannery struck again in the 12th minute, knocking home a loose ball on a penalty corner from Lasell.

With 15:33 remaining in the half, Flannery drove through the left side of the field and delivered a cross pass to senior Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.), who tucked a shot past Alvino in front of the goal, increasing the Lasell advantage to 4-0. In the 33rd minute, Lasell freshman Brittany Fortier (Newport, Vt.) found Flannery on the right side of the net, who ripped a shot past Alvino's left side, giving the Lasers a 5-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Lasell carried their momentum into the second half with junior Courtney Braman (Gardner, Mass.) knocking home a put back goal in the 41st minute, extending the Lasers lead to 6-0. Less than four minutes later, Flannery delivered her fourth goal of the game, putting back a rebound of her initial saved shot. The Lasers final tally came with 14:42 remaining as senior Francesca Ceppetelli (Enfield, Conn.) redirected a shot from sophomore Erica Connors (South Berwick, Maine) in front of the net, sending Lasell to an 8-0 win.

The Lasers dominated the shot column, 43-9, during the contest. Alvino stopped 22 shots for the Blazers, while Lasell sophomore goalie Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) made two saves in the win.

The Blazers will return to action as they open New England Collegiate Conference play at Becker College Tuesday afternoon. Faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Lasell hosts Becker Saturday afternoon for a Noon tilt.
