NASHUA, N.H. – The Elms College field hockey squad used a pair of late first half goals, followed by three tallies in the second half to cruise to a 5-1 victory over host Daniel Webster College in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at Harvey Woods Field Tuesday afternoon.

After more than 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Blazers cracked the scoreboard as senior forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) fired home a pass from senior forward Jaclyn Soderquist (Enfield, Conn.), to stake Elms to a 1-0 lead. Narey converted a pass from senior forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) less than four minutes later to extend the Blazers advantage to 2-0 with under 10 minutes to play in the first half.

The Eagles cut into their deficit in the 28th minute on an unassisted strike from freshman Ashlynn Wing (Bennington, N.H.), making it a 2-1 game heading into the half.

Just over four minutes into the second half, the Blazers regained a two-goal lead as senior forward Emma Morgan (South Kingstown, R.I.) found senior forward Kelly Martin  (Enfield, Conn.) open near the near, where she converted. Morgan would deliver her fifth goal of the season, off a feed from sophomore defender Stephanie Esposito (Orange, Conn.) to push the Elms lead to 4-1. The final tally for the Blazers came in the 63rd minute as senior defender Ashley Reid (Enfield, Conn.) netted a pass from freshman defender Alyssa Falvo (Wilbraham, Mass.), to secure the 5-1 win for Elms.

The Blazers dominated the Eagles in the shot column, 25-7, during the contest. Elms junior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) picked up her fourth win of the season with a pair of saves, while freshman Ka-Trell Andrews (Long Branch, N.J.) had two saves in relief. Daniel Webster junior goalie Danielle Melanson made 14 saves for the Eagles.

With the win, the Blazers improve to 4-12 overall, and 2-1 in NECC competition, while Daniel Webster drops to 0-8, and 0-1 on the season. Elms will return to action when they host Wheelock College Saturday afternoon at Leary Field at 11:00 am. Daniel Webster visits Becker College on Thursday.
