Blazers Play Strong Defense, But Fall Short 1-0 in Loss to Western Connecticut State University

Chicopee, Mass- Elms College junior goalkeeper Sam Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y) gathered 14 saves, but Western Connecticut State University's Tatum Seaver (North Haven, Conn.) broke a scoreless tie with what ended up being the game-winning goal just two minutes into the second half, to give the Colonials a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday night's non-conference field hockey game.

With the loss, Elms moves to 0-2 on the season, while Western Connecticut State University improves to 1-1 on the season.

Seaver found the back of the cage from a well-placed pass from Erica Tanuis (Bethlehem, Conn.) to set up the game's only score.

Elms had 5 shots on goal, 4 of which were saved by sophomore goalkeeper Kristy Trotta (Danbury, Conn.) and 1 that hit inner post at the 12:12 mark in the 1st half from senior Tatiana Frizzell (Brattleboro, VT). Along with that opportunity, with 1:25 remaining in the 1st half, Frizzel again had a great shot on cage, but was turned away this time from Colonials defender Erika Wixted (New Fairfield, Conn) for the defensive safe.

Elms returns to non-conference action Saturday, Sept. 6 when they host Colby-Sawyer at 1:00 p.m. at Leary field.
