Box score

WESTFIELD, MA, Sept. 9, 2008 - Elms College senior defender Ellen Silva (Palmer, MA) netted her first goal of the year, but Westfield State freshman forward Jessi Gould (Canton, MA) scored a school-record five goals to carry the Owls to a 9-1 win over Elms College in Tuesday night's non-conference field hockey game at Alumni Field.

Gould entered the game midway thru the first half and scored three goals in the final 7:29 of the stanza to stake the Owls to a 6-1 halftime lead. Gould then scored twice - at 12:30 and 8:52 of the second half - to cap her debut in the Owls' home opener.

Silva opened the second half scoring for the Blazers, who received a 17-save effort from senior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA).

Elms College returns to non-conference play at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday, September 13. The Blazers will face Kings College at 1:00 p.m.
