FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO THOMAS, 2-1

Box score

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 22, 2007 - Elms College freshman forward Courtney Gilmore (Mansfield, MA) netted her first collegiate goal, but Thomas College junior forward Amy Miles (Waldo, ME) tallied twice to help lift the Terriers to a 2-1 win over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

Thomas won its second conference game in as many days to improve to 2-2, 2-1 NAC. Elms College lost its fourth straight overall and fell to 1-7, 0-1 NAC.

Miles gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead just 5:19 into the game off a deflection from a penalty corner.

Gilmore answered for the Blazers just 3:15 later to knot the score at 1-1.

Miles then scored what stood as the eventual game-winner in the 22nd minute as she broke free and blasted a shot past Elms College junior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA).

Wasgatt finished with five saves for the Blazers, who outshot the Terriers 9-7.

Elms College returns to NAC play when it hosts Husson College on Sunday, September 23. Game time is 12:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
